Trick-or-treat safety: Red Cross shares Halloween safety tips
Southern Nevada Red Cross shares tips for drivers and trick-or-treaters. The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada has issued safety tips for Halloween, one of the deadliest nights of the year for young pedestrians. Research from JAMA Pediatrics indicates that pedestrian deaths increase by 43 percent on Halloween, and children ages 4 to 8 are 10 times more likely to be hit and killed than on other nights. The danger peaks around 6 p.m. when fading light makes children harder to see. The Red Cross offers safety tips such as slow down, stay alert, and avoid busy neighborhoods, avoid heavy pedestrian traffic, and use a designated driver or another safe ride home. The First Aid app provides step-by-step guidance for injuries and emergencies.
