With Halloween falling on a Saturday this year and Nevada Day celebrations adding to the holiday weekend, the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada is reminding The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada has issued a warning about potential dangers for Halloween pedestrians due to the excitement surrounding Halloween and the increasing number of traffic deaths in Las Vegas. The warning comes as the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reports that there have been 101 traffic-related deaths within its jurisdiction in 2026, down from 131 in 2025. Despite this decline in fatalities compared to the same period last year, safety advocates are urging drivers and pedestrians to remain alert during Halloween festivities. Bridget Posson, executive director of the Red Cross, said children ages 4-8 are at the greatest risk of being struck and killed by a vehicle due to excitement and distracted driving. To prevent such incidents, the RedCross recommends using sidewalks and cross streets at marked crosswalks, carrying flashlights and wearing reflective clothing or costume accessories to improve visibility after dark.
