'It is absurd': Cannizzaro contests 'soft on crime' label
Nevada Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro pushes back against “soft on crime” attacks, defending her prosecutorial record in an interview with Channel 13. Former Las Vegas chief deputy district attorney, Cannizzaro, has been targeted as "soft on crime" in her campaign against the Republican Party's candidate for governor. Cannizzano, who has worked in the Legislature to address issues such as organized retail theft, fentanyl trafficking, child exploitation, and ways to keep police officers on the beat, has received law-enforcement endorsements from police groups across the state. She also criticizes the Legislature for increasing the amount of goods that had to be stolen before a person could be charged with a felony, a move criticized by Gov. Joe Lombardo. Cannizaro argues that if elected, she would insist on proper process for undocumented immigrants. She believes that people who commit crimes should still be afforded due process.
