Errol Spence Jr. is back in the game, revealing that he’ll be ringside for WBO junior middleweight champion Tim Tszyu’s title defense against Sebastian Fundora this Saturday night in Las Vegas. Errol wants to fight the winner of that clash next. Tszyu wants that sweet PPV cash, and Spence can give it to him.
If Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) gets his wish, he will be jumping in front of Terence Crawford, the WBO mandatory for Tszyu’s 154-lb belt. Boxing fans will be highly interested in a fight between the highly popular Spence, who is a far bigger PPV draw than Crawford, more charismatic, and connects better with fans.
That won’t make Crawford happy because he’s used his WBO ‘Super Champion’ status at 147 to be installed as the mandatory for Tszyu without needing to work his way into the position. Spence will be snatching the Tszyu fight right from under Crawford’s nose, and he will be helpless to stop it.

Fans on social media are complaining that Spence has been inactive since last year, but they’re forgetting that Crawford hasn’t fought either. They’ve both been inactive since their fight last year in July, but at least Spence has had an excuse for his inactivity, healing up from cataract surgery.
Crawford could have fought anyone, and he should have taken the fight against IBF welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis to get his title back after it was stripped.
If Tszyu chooses to fight Spence, viewed as the far bigger PPV draw than the 36-year-old Crawford, Tim would likely have to vacate his WBO title because the mandatory is due against Terence
It’s questionable whether Crawford will show any interest in fighting for the WBO belt without Tszyu having it because his likely reason for targeting the title is to face him. He’s popular in Australia, and there’s PPV money to be made.
Without Tszyu, Crawford would have to fight the highest-ranked contender in the WBO’s rankings at 154, which would be Josh Kelly, a British fighter who isn’t popular in the U.S. and not a big name in the UK either.
Given that Crawford is more focused on money at this stage of his career, he’ll pass up on the idea of fighting for the WBO belt and will just move on.
