The incident occurred during a youth activity being held at the meeting house when an unidentified person entered and threw an incendiary device on the floor where the activity was taking place. The device damaged the building’s front entrance carpet and gymnasium, and pierced a religiously sensitive painting. This is the third time in the past 30 days that the building has been damaged by fireworks, according to LDS church stake president Steve Morris. The FBI is currently investigating the incident. The LDS church has released a statement supporting ongoing investigations and commended the FBI, Homeland Security, and Henderson Police Department for their thorough response and investigation.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Four people were injured after a “firework type device” ignited within a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meeting house in Henderson, according to police.
It happened on Wednesday, March 27 at about 8 p.m., in the 800 block of Arrowhead Trail near Boulder Highway and College Drive.
When Henderson Police and fire crews arrived they determined that a “firework type device” did ignite inside the church. The four people injured had minor injuries, according to The Henderson Police Department.
LDS church stake president Steve Morris told 8 News Now that a youth activity was being held at the meeting house at the time of the incident. An unidentified person entered the church and threw an incendiary device on the floor where the activity was taking place. The device damaged the meeting house’s front entrance carpet and the gymnasium, it also pierced a religiously sensitive painting.
According to Morris, it is the third time in the past 30 days that the meeting house has been damaged by fireworks.
“This is serious, it’s something that is very serious as the authorities take it very seriously, and the fact that the FBI is investing this, should indicate how serious this is, I hope whoever is doing it, stops doing it,” Morris expressed to 8 News Now.
City of Henderson Councilman Jim Seebock released the following statement to 8 News Now on Thursday regarding the incident.
“I was immediately in contact with our Henderson Police Department and have been in communication with Steve Morris who is one of the Stake Presidents at that church. He joins me today in thanking our law enforcement, which includes the FBI, Homeland Security, and Henderson Police Department for their fast and thorough response and investigation. This incident reminds all of us how important it is to be vigilant in our community and if you see something, say something, especially during this Easter weekend so we all can enjoy this season with our families.” – City of Henderson Councilman Jim Seebock
The LDS church also released the following statement to 8 News Now regarding the incident.
“During a youth activity being held at a local chapel, an unidentified individual entered the church building and threw an incendiary device on the floor of the room where the activity was taking place. There were no injuries, and the perpetrator fled the scene. We are supporting the ongoing investigations, and we are extremely appreciative of the responsiveness of the Henderson Police Department.” -LDS church Stake President Steve Morris.
