LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Body camera videos, calls made to UPD dispatch and exterior camera footage related to the law enforcement response to the campus shooting on UNLV are being released by University Police.

“These records are a painful reminder of the darkest day in our university’s history. We continue to mourn with the family and friends of our three faculty members whose lives were taken. But I am also heartened by the swift and heroic actions of our UPD officers and all first responders, and by the compassion and kindness shown by our staff, faculty, and students toward one another. On difficult days of my own reflection and recovery, I have personally chosen to focus on the actions of bravery, care, and support I have seen and witnessed throughout our healing process. As the Rebel Recovery process continues, we are guided by our values of compassion and inclusivity and driven by the notion that the safety, security, and well-being of the UNLV family – our employees and students – are our priority. We remain UNLV Strong and are grateful for the love and support the community has exhibited.”

The collection of videos spanning hours long, shows the suspect arriving on campus in a black sedan, parking outside of Beam Hall, retrieving items from the vehicle, and walking toward the entrance of the building.

Two gunshots from inside Beam Hall can also be heard on dispatch audio.

“It is difficult to listen to these recordings and watch the videos and not reflect on the tragic events that day, but they also are a testament to the bravery, dedication, and valor of the University Police Department and all first responders. I am so incredibly proud of the men and women who selflessly ran toward danger and our dispatchers who performed their duty with unwavering calm and precision. All tried their very best to save lives and help people. I also want to thank Metro and all the members of the Southern Nevada law enforcement community who rushed to help UNLV that day,” explained Adam Garcia, director of University Police Services Southern Command and UNLV Vice President of Public Safety.

Back on December 6, Anthony Polito walked into Beam Hall and began shooting, according to police. Three UNLV professors lost their lives and another suffered injuries.

LVMPD Sheriff Kevin McMahil said that Polito was armed with a Taurus 9 mm handgun that he legally purchased in Henderson in 2022 and that the suspect drove to campus with 11 magazines for the weapon, including nine loaded magazines on his person at the time he was shot and killed by university police.

FOX5 was first on scene when officers raided the suspect’s Henderson home. That’s where they found ammunition consistent with that used in the shooting, as well as a clearly marked document “similar to a last will and testament,” McMahill added in a press conference the day after the shooting.
