LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – At the beginning of the year the Tropicana Las Vegas announced it would cease operations on April 2 after opening more than six decades ago.

Now Bally’s Corporation which owns the Las Vegas Strip resort has announced a time frame for the demolition.

“Our team felt that this was the right time, post the peak season, to prepare to close the Trop. It’s been in the works for some time. This gives plenty of time to ready the place for the redevelopment and the start of construction to prepare for the demolition in October,” Bally’s Chairman Soo Kim said.

The demolition set for October will make way for development to begin on a state-of-the-art ballpark that will be the home of the relocating Oakland Athletics on the Las Vegas Strip.

The property which opened in 1957 is one of the few casinos left on the Las Vegas Strip from that era.
