LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A former Las Vegas teacher is suing the Clark County School District after she was sexually assaulted and brutally beaten by a student nearly two years ago.

The lawsuit was filed on Wednesday in Clark County District Court under the pseudonym Sade Doe.

Doe was the victim in the incident that took place on April 7, 2022, at Eldorado High School.

8 News Now obtained surveillance video showing Jonathan Garcia Martinez roaming the hallways of Eldorado High School before he attacked Doe.

The teenager was sentenced last year to serve a minimum of 16 years in prison.

According to her lawsuit, Doe accuses CCSD of negligence for failing to protect her and make her aware she had violent students in her class.

Doe alleged she moved to Las Vegas from Washington to teach at Eldorado High beginning in July of 2020. She taught virtually due to the pandemic until the fall of 2021, according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit described the previously reported assault Garcia Martinez inflicted on Doe, which included rape and strangulation. He also beat her and threw a metal bookcase on top of her. At one point he told her, “How are you not dead yet?”

According to court documents, no one heard Doe’s screams and cries for help during the more of an hour-and-a-half attack in her classroom.

A colleague reportedly told Doe in March of 2022 about a panic button in classrooms.

Yet, Doe alleged in the suit that no one in the district told her about a panic button before, who the panic button would connect to, or the hours it was active.

The lawsuit stated the district knew “about the lack of safety and security at CCSD schools, including Eldorado High School, and failed to take proper action sooner.”
