Copper Rays solar project wins key early Nye County approval
Nye County commissioners approved key planning documents for the Copper Rays Solar project near Pahrump despite public concerns about water use and environmental impacts. Nye County commissioners have approved preliminary development plans for the Copper Rays Solar project, a large-scale solar generation facility proposed for 4,414 acres of Bureau of Land Management land southeast of Pahrump. Despite continued opposition from residents, Nye County granted the project a Special Use Permit and approved a preliminary development plan. The project is expected to generate up to $94 million in local property tax revenue over its 36-year operating life and provide up to €1 million per year in federal lease revenue. The final environmental impact statement for the project was issued in August and the developer is now in the process of obtaining local approvals.
